What is the best Time to have your baby’s First Christmas photos taken?
It’s nearly Christmas and it might be your baby’s first one ever, so you are considering having a Christmas photoshoot, but you are not sure when is the right time…
You may ask yourself…
Is my baby not too small to Have the Christmas photos taken?
Let me tell you about what to expect and how the photos might turn out depending on different age of your baby.
Newborn baby (up to two weeks)
Newborn babies are so delicate and tiny..
They mostly sleep, eat and poop, some babies cry more than others. It’s normal. With newborn photos it’s all about capturing you precious baby in a cute, curled up pose, while they are having some amazing dreams (probably about milk)
Newborn photoshoot is usually quite long, it can be even up to 4 hours long depending on how many photos you would like and how easily your baby is going to settle, how sensitive your baby is to touch and how responsive to the poses.
Older baby 5 - 8 months
If you prefer to see you baby’s eyes and catch their cute expressions, you might need to plan the shoot for about 5 to 9 months when your baby starts to lift their head up and sit unsupported. I personally love seeing baby's big, cute eyes and their adorable faces. Babies this age start showing emotions, they can smile, laugh, or even squeal with excitement. Also, at this age, babies are not too mobile yet, so they won’t escape from the set easily, and you can get a variety of different poses… on their back, playing with their feet, on their tummy and sitting down. Babies this age are still very trusting and will happily smile to the camera.
9 - 12 months
Babies who are about 9 months old may start showing shyness or fear towards strangers, so they might get a little bit clingy in new places and new situations. They might not like the camera that much or might feel a bit nervous and unsure towards the strangers (a photographer in this case).
Also, at this age, they have most likely started to crawl or walk, which means, they won’t sit still for long and would much more prefer to move about and find something more interesting to do ;)
One more thing, wearing any sort of hats, headband, hair clips is not fun for them anymore and they will take them off in a blink of the eye (as you can see on the photo above).
So, if you ask me, as an experienced baby photographer, I would say…
the best time to have your baby’s first Christmas Photos taken is…
Between 5 - 8 months
But, whatever you decide, having your baby’s first Christmas photo session will make a beautiful memory.
They will not remember it, but you will….
